What is open source software?
Free and Open Source software is software that the user may obtain, use, modify and redistribute free of charge. It embraces the idea that "knowledge must be owned by society" and as such welcomes the contribution of the community. The key to this freedom is the availability of each program's source code on the Internet.
With the freedom of use also comes a freedom of choice that is often not available with commercial proprietary software, yet open source software is often fully compatible with proprietary software.
We hope you find this software collection useful and invite you to find ways to contribute to this exciting community.
